Fruit in Season Australia: Month-by-Month Guide

Fruit in Season Australia: Month-by-Month Guide

Fruit always tastes best in season. It's picked ripe, travels a shorter distance and usually costs less. This guide shows what fruit is in season in Australia each month, so you can buy the sweetest fruit and choose gifts that look and taste their best.

Seasons can shift by a few weeks depending on the weather and where the fruit is grown. Queensland fruit often arrives earlier, and Victorian and Tasmanian fruit later. The months below are when each fruit is at its peak on the east coast.

How to choose the best fruit

  • Smell it: ripe mangoes, pineapples and melons smell sweet at the stem end.
  • Feel it: stone fruit and avocados should give slightly when gently pressed.
  • Check the colour: cherries should be deep red with green stems, and citrus should feel heavy for its size.
  • Store it right: keep berries and cherries in the fridge, and ripen mangoes and stone fruit at room temperature.
